This CD looks like a bootleg job. Don't get me wrong. The artwork features the original Supremes but the recordings are not by Diana, Mary and Flo. These are the same recordings made by Scherrie Payne and Lynda Laurence many moons ago which keep creeping in all kinds of compilations from many different countries. I think Scherrie and Lynda are fabulous singers and they have every right to bill themselves as Supremes but it is fraudulent to try to pass these cover tracks for originals. If you are looking for the classic recordings stick with Motown fare.
Although the lyrics to "Love Child" are somewhat heavy, the natural beauty of this song raises it up to be one of their best tunes ever. Diana Ross & The Supremes always sounded good whenever they sang--they put so much feeling into their songs that you could really sense it while you enjoyed every minute of each song. "I'm Livin' In Shame" is also very well done; these ladies do this one up right. The quality of the sound is really very good considering these came from mono recordings and the artwork is good, too.The album starts with The Supremes singing "When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes." The beat is infectiously catchy and they sing this faultlessly. "Reflections" is a somewhat psychedelic ballad that works on more than one level at once. "Baby Love" is another great hit for The Supremes; and that's grand. "You Can't Hurry Love" is very sweet even though the lyrics aren't really the happiest; and "You Keep Me Hangin' On" is very strong.
"Baby Love" has another incredible beat; the percussion and brass are used to great advantage in the musical arrangement. "Where Did Our Love Go" is very poignant and these ladies make it sound so perfect. "Stop. I highly recommend this as a must-have for fans of this group; and people just hearing their sound for the very first time would do well to start with this wonderful album.
Diana Ross & The Supremes - The Ultimate Collection gives us a whopping twenty-five tracks on a single CD; we get their biggest hits and more on this album. "The Happening" was always one of my very favorite Supremes songs; and just one listen will tell you this was a huge number from them. In addition, I really like "Reflections;" this was recorded after they began to call themselves Diana Ross & The Supremes. "In And Out Of Love" shines when Diana Ross & The Supremes sing it with all their hearts and souls; and "Love Child" is extremely moving. "Back In My Arms Again" has a very fine arrangement; they sing to perfection--and beyond. The album ends strong with these wonderful ladies performing "Someday We'll Be Together." "Someday We'll Be Together" is so hopeful and relentlessly upbeat that this has a rather triumphant flavor; and that music perfectly complements their vocals--great.Diana Ross & The Supremes never let their fans down; just one listen to this red-hot CD proves it. "When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes" makes a strong start for this album. They sing this with a great deal of passion and it shows when you hear it.
In The Name Of Love" stuns me; The Supremes sing this without letting go of a single superfluous note and it is a major highlight of this album. "Nothing But Heartaches" shines brighter than silver and gold combined; and for a true diamond listen for "I Hear A Symphony." "I Hear A Symphony" charms me with its natural beauty and I think it's one of the best songs they did--ever."My World Is Empty Without You" certainly tugs at my heartstrings; and "Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart" has a fine beat that will get you up and dancing wherever you are right this minute. "I'm Gonna Make You Love Me" is so self-confident that it's practically celebratory; and "The Composer" is another fine tune that Diana Ross & The Supremes turn out just like the pros they were and always will be.
Original motown cd.the best. I loved it and is still enjoying it as it bring back some special memories.
thanks to Scherries infectious lead vocals. The Songs are from the beginning of the sixties to the end of the seventies from the biggest female trio the world has ever known. Great to hear Scherrie Payne fronting the group in the collection with "I'm Gonna Let My Heart Do The Walking" - a great disco classic that was to be the Supremes' last to 40 hit in the U.S. Only thing missing is some detailed liner notes but that's something you rarely get from a budged-priced collection. RECOMMENDED.
I recommend this album to you. But as for the songs, they are fantastic.
Everything from When The Lovelight Starts Shining Through His Eyes to the final Someday Well Be Together. This is an album where I can listen straight through without any stops.
This album includes all of the Supremes biggest and best hits and then some. The vinyl copy of my Supremes albums sound better than this.
The only thing that I was disappointed in is the sound quality of the songs. With all the digital master machines they have today, I would hope they would be able to have better sound quality than this.
Baby Love,Where Did Our Love Go.,Come See About Me,The Happening, etc.they all are here. Enjoy.
